If you haven’t already realized by previous posts, I LOVE TO READ! There’s something about picking up a book and reading that is relaxing and invigorating all at the same time. More than likely, you are in a calm, relaxed position. Most of the time I am laying on my bed or lounge chair but love to read just about anywhere. I also take my book or Kindle with me to doctor appointments, hair appointments, definitely on the plane – basically anywhere there may be a window of time that I can read. I almost will the doctor to be a smidgen behind schedule so I can get in a chapter or two.
The invigorating part comes from the stories themselves. I open that book (or turn on the Kindle) and am transformed into another person for the time being. I imagine what the characters look like, how they speak, what their house is like. It’s all my imagination…and I love it!
Summertime is a perfect time to read (as are wintertime, fall, and spring). Grab a book and go to the beach for some sun (with sunscreen please!). Lay out a blanket in your backyard, on your patio or at a local park and get in some quality reading time. Here are my recommendations for your summertime reading, wherever it may take place. Click on the titles below for more information or to purchase them.
Eleanor and Park: a GREAT light read. Sweet kids, innocence and a twist.
The Hunchback of Neiman Marcus: check out my full review! Definitely an interesting and fun writing style!
The Girl on the Train: I am so sure you’ve heard about this book…the hype is true (and the Kindle edition is only $6.99).
Call the Midwife: An interesting look into the life of a midwife in the 1950’s.
Big Little Lies: I didn’t really want this one to end!
Me Before You: Keep the tissues nearby. The Kindle edition is only $2.99 right now!
In the Unlikely Event: Judy Blume has always been a favorite author of mine. This book is totally Judy Blume – translation: awesome!
Labor Day: This book kept me hooked from cover to cover.
The Book of Joan: Check out my full review. A wonderful, witty, and sometimes a bit sad tribute to a one-of-a-kind woman!
What books are you reading? I’d love to hear!

Ha! Great picks! It’s funny I just wrote a similar post here: http://www.goodenufmommy.com/2015/06/5-1-best-summer-reads-2015.html with many of the same books! You’ve got some ones on here I haven’t looked at yet though. Liane Moriarty and Rainbow Rowell are my new favourite authors right now!
Dana says
How funny! Great minds! I am going to check out more books by Moriarty and Rowell. I enjoy the way they write as well.

I have books piled on my nightstand, stacked in the closet, on my Kindle and I still look for more great books to read. Becky, what are your favorite children’s books?
