Today is the first day of New York’s Fashion Week, showcasing fashion for Spring/Summer 2013. NY kicks off the Fashion Weeks throughout the world, followed by London, Milan, and then Paris. I wish that I could go to fashion shows.
When I was little, I would spend my winter break at my aunt’s clothing store in Brooklyn. During the day, I would help around the store – I was specially trained in sizing the men’s’ trouser section. (I think I was given that task because I was closest in height to the rack that housed the pants LOL.) As I got older, I was given more detailed tasks – I remember inputting all different kinds of required data into AB’s computer system. I learned about a lot of the famous designers at an early age I loved looking through the clothing for sale, and sometimes acquiring a really cool piece for my very own! I still have this absolutely delicious black leather motorcycle jacket that I must have gotten over 18 years ago (OMG I am so freakin’ old). I have this gorgeous Versace bright yellow silk quilted coat, that even though it does not fit me now, will never leave my closet. My Sweet 16 dress was from AB’s store…my Senior Banquet outfit (love) as well.
I digress (as usual). Sometimes, my aunt would take me to one of the super fancy hotels in New York City to visit the different designers and view their wares. I had a great time…all of the beautiful clothing, the fabrics, colors…I was in heaven. It was like my own little Fashion Week!
Who are some of your favorite designers?
