I know what you’re thinking…yet another “National {insert anything you can think of} Day”. Today – World Oceans Day – is different.
I personally love the different “National” holidays that I hear about – and use them to their full extent for client marketing purposes. I mean, how much fun is it to have an ice cream sundae on National Ice Cream Sundae Day?!
Happy World Oceans Day!
World Oceans Day is a day dedicated to honoring the ocean.
The Ocean Project helps lead global promotion and coordination of World Oceans Day. Since 2002, we have collaboratively worked in partnership with hundreds of organizations and networks from all sectors to help rally the world around 8 June, and continue to grow engagement and action for our shared ocean throughout the year. All information, materials and resources on this site and associated with World Oceans Day are free to use to those who are celebrating World Oceans Day as a way to bring about a healthier ocean and a better future. World Oceans Day® is trademarked to protect it from those who might have commercial or counterproductive interests.
#100KINITIATIVE
I was first introduced to World Oceans Day via an email when the founders of Found reached out to inform me about their #100KInitiative.
Found in partnership with Oceana, the world’s largest ocean advocacy group and artist Amit Greenberg, created the #100KInitiative – an ocean conservation project highlighting the true impact of plastics on marine mammals.
IMPORTANT FACTS
Did you know…
- Out of all plastic produced to date, only 9% has been recycled.
- Plastics are made to last forever, they never go away.
- There are about 5 trillion pieces of plastic in the oceans.
- 100,000 pounds of plastic is dumped into the ocean every 3 minutes.
- Plastic debris has been found sitting on the deepest point of the ocean floor.
WHAT WE CAN DO TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE
SIMPLE: Stop Using Plastic!
Purchase reusable water bottles and cups – I love my Yeti!
Stop purchasing plastic straws! This was a hard one for us but we found replacements. I love drinking my beverages out of a stainless steel straw – it makes it that much more refreshing!
Keep your reusable shopping bags in your trunk. Plastic bags are so yesterday LOL!

Take Part in the #100K Initiative
Purchase a 12-pack of Found’s yummy 100% natural, non GMO sparkling water – Cucumber Mint or Elderflower. 100% of the profits from your purchase go to Oceana to help fight plastic pollution and protect marine mammals.
Found has created 100,000 individually numbered bottles. Each numbered label is double-sided and designed to represent the marine mammals in a plastic-free habitat.
They were kind enough to send me a 12-pack of the Cucumber Mint water and I have to say both my hubby and I are HUGE fans.
I am upcycling the bottles to use as bud vases. Each time I use them it will be a reminder of the need to protect our marine mammals.
What are you going to do?
