School is almost over, especially if you live in South Florida. One more month of homework, pencils, and backpacks, and then the kiddos are home. If you are opting to send them to a summer camp and have not yet done so, I highly recommend you add that to your to-do NOW list. Camps are filling up but most importantly, you want to find the perfect summer camp for YOUR child.
While word-of-mouth recommendations from friends or relatives are ideal, when choosing a summer camp I advise on taking your children’s interests and personalities into account. Here are four camps that help you to see why I go this route. Even if you are not in the Palm Beach County area, you can easily search up similar camps online!
WPBF: FINDING THE PERFECT SUMMER CAMP
Check out my latest news segment where I introduce four local day camps and scroll down below to get detailed info on each of them!
TENNIS, ANYONE?
If you have a junior Serena or Venus living in your household, your child should be attending the Johan Kriek Tennis Academy’s summer camp in Palm Beach Gardens. Johan was #7 in the world and knows his way around the net and court. He and his instructors will be able to teach your child (and even adults – this camp is not limited to children and non-pros) all the basics of the game of tennis including serving, volleying, keeping score, and backhand skills. Your child will also learn how to play in a single or doubles scenario. Johan’s camp will keep your child active and is an ideal choice if you’re trying to get your kid off their phone and get him or her more physically fit.
Ages: 3 – adult
Dates: June 5 – August 26; Monday – Saturday 10:30a – 4:00p
Pricing: Varies on whether you are an Academy player, how many weeks you sign up for, and a la carte options if chosen. Click HERE for full details.

CALLING ALL DRAMA KINGS AND QUEENS!
What sets this theater camp apart from others is that the campers also get to experience classic summer camp activities such as go-carts, swimming, field trips, a carnival, and my favorite – a real flying trapeze! The two productions slated for this summer are Beauty and the Beast Jr. and Seussical Jr. (The junior versions are very similar to the originals, yet adapted to better suit the stamina of the younger performers.)
At the end of each session your child gets to take home a commemorative DVD of their performance!
Ages: 7 – 14
Dates: 2 sessions – June 12 – July 7 & July 10 – August 4

IS YOUR CHILD THE NEXT PICASSO?
I personally can’t even draw a stick figure, but perhaps your child is the next Picasso or the next Coco Chanel? If you have a creative type that loves to doodle, draw or paint, the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach is an ideal fit for them. They have a numerous variety of ‘summer art experience’ camps for kids from 1st grade to 12th grade that includes – but are not limited to – newer programs like jewelry class, ceramics class, and even 3-D printing for the digital arts. They also have different themes each week to stimulate all your kid’s creative juices and when all is said and done, 1 of your child’s works will be featured in a public exhibition to boot!
You have the flexibility to register for one week at a time, a few weeks or the whole summer!
Ages: grade 1 – 12
Dates: June 5 – August 4; 9:30 am – 4:30 pm with before and aftercare available at a small cost
Pricing: $235 per week includes a t-shirt and all art materials. Click HERE for more details. Note that there is a discount if you register for multiple weeks and/or if you register more than one child! (Weeks 2 and 6 have an additional fee as there are field trips scheduled during those sessions.)
