Meet Brittany of Palm Beach Facials!

One thing that my mom instilled in me from a young age was the importance of self care. Be it taking time for yourself to work on a jigsaw puzzle (one of my most favorite things to do aside from reading), getting a manicure, pedicure, facial, or just a quick nap – it all helps to center yourself.

I was recently invited to Palm Beach Facials by the beautiful and talented Brittany for a facial and lash lift. I was so glad to have the time to get to know Brittany, about her business, and why she loves what she does.

My facial was both super relaxing and informative (I asked a lot of questions and Brittany was filled with tips and insights to keep my skin healthy). My lash lift – I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing it is! I don’t have to put mascara on – I look awake even when I’m “not-so-much”. I have to vote the lash lift as a “must-have”.

Meet Brittany Johnston!

When you were little what did you want to be when you grew up?

A teacher, just like my mom.

How did you come up with the idea for your business?

As a teen, I suffered from acne. I eventually began receiving facials monthly to manage my skin. This sparked my love affair with skincare. I finally decided to pursue a career in esthetics and open my own business. It’s been the best career decision I’ve ever made!

What is the biggest struggle you’ve encountered as an entrepreneur and how did you solve it?

Opening my own business has definitely been a struggle. I’ve done it all on my own and have overcome several obstacles and it hasn’t been easy. I had a business plan, a budget and a vision of exactly what I wanted for my business. I did my research and got advice from other business owners. I thought I knew exactly what I was doing and had a plan for every step of the way. Once I got the ball rolling, I quickly realized that my plan needed quite a bit of adjusting. I basically changed everything about my business in the first 6 months of being open, new location, new services, new prices and even changed my business name. I had to do whatever it took to make my business a success, even if it meant basically starting all over again. I’m so glad I hung in there and didn’t give up when things didn’t go according to plan. Now my business is thriving and I couldn’t be happier!

What do you think are the pros and cons of being a womenpreneur?

Pros are endless! Being a womanpreneur gives me a great amount of pride. I’ve always dreamt of being a business owner. Accomplishing this goal fulfills me in a way I can’t describe. It also shows my daughter that you can do anything you want in this world and be successful! The Cons of being a womanpreneur are insignificant compared to the pros. Yes, it can be extremely challenging to start a business but it’s so worth it!

Do you have any mentors or coaches that you work with?

I have a few fellow Estheticians and Spa owners who I go to for advice from time to time. It’s nice to have friends in the industry who are willing to share information or give advice when needed.

What advice would you give to someone reading this that has the entrepreneurial “itch”?

Go for it! Really… just do it! It’s the things in life that you DIDN’T do that you usually regret, not the things that you did do! Talk about your goals with the people in your life, ask for advice, do research and take classes from experts. Hire a business coach who can hold you accountable and help you through the process. Do whatever it takes – you won’t regret it!

What is the secret to achieving a work-life balance for you?

Planning! I keep a schedule on my phone and have my days planned by the hour. It’s a must for any business owner. It’s easy to get caught up working so it’s important to schedule time with my family.

How do you find inspiration?

I find a lot of inspiration from my clients. They inspire me to be the best I can be for them. They rely on me to help them with their skin conditions which can be a huge burden for so many people. They also rely on my business as a place they can come to relax and recharge. Knowing that I can help someone feel better on the inside and out is extremely rewarding and inspiring.

What do you do to decompress?

Put on a face mask and watch TV, usually some type of crime show
