I am excited to say that we are finally somewhat closer to closing on our new home. By closer, I mean like 3 – 4 months, but that means we are that much closer to the end of the rainbow, right???
Now I am overly consumed with making sure that my current home is in tip-top shape for when we are ready to list it for sale. I already have a list yey-big…of course I have a list…it is just a matter of being able to check the items off of this said list!
I have been researching what is recommended to do in order to stage our home. All of those MANY hours watching “Sell This House”, “House Hunters” and oodles of other shows along this genre has truly helped me. Here are some ideas that I learned:
- The main goal is to make the visitor feel that they can see themselves living in the home, spending time with their family in the home.
- I know I need to seriously de-clutter and also try to de-personalize my house as best as I can. My dining room may be somewhat of an issue as the main wall and some of the side walls house family pictures. If I was to take those photos down, the wall would look majorly empty.
- Curb appeal is huge…that is the first thing that potential buyers see as they approach the home. We are definitely re-mulching and re-rocking – fresh mulch and landscaping shapes the initial opinion.
- One thing that I know we may struggle with is that we have two accent walls – one in our family/great room and one in the dining room…I don’t think we are going to repaint those walls as I think they add a “pop” factor to the rooms but I guess I need to see what my realtor thinks. I have read over and over that neutral walls is the way to go. Hmmmmm
- It is recommended that you create a spa-like feeling in the bathrooms with white or off-white towels. That is an easy fix…Target here I come! I just need to make sure that the boys are not around when the super light colored towels are. 🙂
I would love to hear of any staging advice and selling techniques you have! Please comment!

Your house already looks like a model home! I sincerely doubt that you will have that much work to do. You are a decorating pro!
