Last night, as part of my book club, I went to see The Great Gatsby. First off, the place where we saw the movie, iPic, was super cool. We opted for the premium seat tickets, what a nice treat! I arrived at my seat to find a cozy blanket and pillow. Once I found the controls to raise the footrest and turn this bad boy into a lazy-boy type chair, I was greeted by my waiter with a bag of popcorn. Just as the previews started, the waiter came back to take my dinner order – love it! (I ordered the Mediterranean salad minus cheese and tomato, plus grilled chicken; a class of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc and ice water – all in line with my current diet.)
We chose the movie in 3-D which I thought would be weird – why would they produce this movie in 3-D? It was a nice touch to the movie, but I am sure the 2-D was just as good.
I loved the movie. The opulent homes of both Daisy Buchanan and Gatsby were to die for. The dresses and head pieces that the women wore were breathtaking. I want the dress that Daisy was wearing in her first scene when Nick comes to visit for lunch.
I feel that the cast was well-appointed. Leonardo was exactly what I thought Gatsby would look like. Tobey Maguire was a good fit for the part of Nick Carraway. Elizabeth Dibicki was the perfect Jordan Baker.
Some people felt that the music was not appropriate for the era of the movie. I personally thought that it was a nice modern touch – (isn’t Jay Z every where these days???).
In honor of my now love for the fashion during that era, I am going to post some cool “new” takes on the fashion of The Great Gatsby era.
Did you watch the movie? What were your thoughts?
