Yesterday our community had a garage sale. As of Friday night we didn’t know if we were going to participate – is it worth it to get up super early (the sale was advertised to begin at 8:00 am), drag everything out, in hopes that you sell a lot without too much haggling?
Saturday morning we were up…it was 7:15 am and we figured that we would try it out. If there were not a lot of shoppers by 9 am, we’d pack it up and carry on with our day. As my husband made the customary “Saturday morning pancakes”, I started to pull everything out of the garage. The clothing steamer that I HAD to have – fully functional, just ignored and dusty. Sadie’s second metal kennel – she grew so quickly as a puppy that we went through many of them! Scrapbooking supplies – I tried, I truly did. I collected practically every magazine and book having to do with scrapbooking. It was an impressive library LOL.
I knew when it was 8 a.m. – it was as if the flood gates opened. Cars upon cars flowed into the community and here I am rushing to get everything out. (Mind you, last week I had everything planned out in my mind. As I came across items for the garage sale, I would bring them into the garage. I even bought super cute round stickers to price everything. Those same stickers are sitting in my produce bowl, unopened, and now going back to Target.)
Clothing was a big seller, a lot of people asked for shoes, my husband’s ear buds were in demand. Kids from around the neighborhood came by to grab a pair, as they heard about this great deal at our house LOL. My two boys “ran” that table. They kept it well-stocked and informed the customers of the price.
I met a lot of nice people. One guy was looking for old watches as he refurbishes them (as a hobby) and sells them. He showed me this really nice Seiko from the 1970’s that he just fixed up with new insides and watchband. Really nice! One guy was filled with tats, doo rag on his head, pretty gruff looking guy – super super nice guy that loved dogs. I think I may have met Sadie’s new dog babysitter. The lady walked up with her husband and the first thing out of her mouth was, “I watch about 5 golden doodles.” Love her! Once she said that last night she slept with a Vizla on her bed, I knew she was a true dog lover.
We got to see some of our neighbors that we haven’t seen since Halloween. Sadie was especially happy – she got to play with her buddy Marley. I think they had the best time out of everyone!
Overall, I am glad that we participated in the garage sale. We made a little bit of money and had a lot of fun.
