From Friday, August 1 – Sunday, August 3rd you can shop for certain exempt items tax free, in preparation for the new school year! Examples of items that are tax-free include:
Clothing items that are priced $100 or under – I’m not trying to look a gift horse in the mouth BUT it is interesting that sports uniforms, for example, are exempt from taxation BUT pads and helmets are taxable. So little Johnny can get his uniform without paying tax, but the safety gear – sorry! Oh, and if you are in the market for a fishing vest, please opt for the nonflotation variety if you don’t want to pay tax. Sorry for the sarcasm there, but I don’t understand…
School supplies priced $15 or less – this list is pretty self-explanatory but I don’t understand why in this day and age computer and printer paper are taxable.
Computers and computer-related accessories may qualify as long as what you are buying (that is on the list) is for personal or noncommercial home usage. It’s also applies to the first $750 spent.
