I had one of the best Thanksgivings in years. (I hope I don’t jinx myself). The morning started with my husband’s daily egg white omelet with cherry tomatoes, spinach, mushroom, and cheese. As I was enjoying my breakfast, my husband announced that the parade started.
WHAAAAAATTTTTTTT???
I grabbed my plate, ran into the living room (may have tackled one of my sons along the way), grabbed the remote, and turned the channel to NBC. This is MY time…MY Superbowl…no one gets in the way. Luckily my sons wanted to play outside after I arrived, so there I was – me and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. This year I was able to really sit on the couch with my coffee and a blanket, and enjoy the show!
It was as great as I had envisioned it, as great as every other year. I cheered on the high school bands and cheerleading team, I loved watching all of the Broadway play skits (I totally want to see Annie – when I was in elementary school, I played Molly in the school play. So much fun!). Once the floats started to meander across the screen, I would randomly scream out the front door to the boys, “Pikachu is on!” and “Whoa, run…Spiderman is next”. Sometimes they would come running – the fastest reply was for Diary of a Wimpy Kid’s float.
After the parade finished its 3-mile trek, I started tidying up around the house and made the table for a wonderful dinner to come! I meant to check Pinterest to see what I could accomplish in terms of decorations. I could have sworn that I had a plastic bin filled with Thanksgiving decorations, but my husband said it was not in the garage, as expected. Oh well, right? Once it was realized that we were missing the turkey tray, we started to wonder if we overlooked the bin (I am saying “we” being polite LOL). After going through the attic above the garage, we were able to bring down all of the Hanukkah and Christmas bins but couldn’t find the Thanksgiving bin. As I was placing the Hanukkah bin on the table, I happened to look to the left. Lo and behold – a bin on the top shelf above the garbage pails, with a CLEAR AS DAY label stating “THANKSGIVING DECORATIONS”. I think I am so organized that I don’t even realize it. After laughing about it, we took down the bin. What was inside??? The tray…along with some super cute sequined pumpkins, the first Thanksgiving decoration we bought together (fiber optic turkey that has seen better days), and aptly themed artwork from the boys. I swoon over my boys’ artwork…off to the foyer table and mirror they went….my best decorations, by far!
The house was properly adorned, off to make the first-ever pumpkin cheesecake. My husband is an amazing chef but does not like baking. After this baking experience, besides having to run out to get Vanilla extract, he needs to reconsider. The cheesecake turned out to be delicious. It was actually quite easy to make! Recipe to follow! Then the grandparents came over and we started playing board games – Monopoly Junior and Operation Star Wars. I can’t remember the last time I played a board game…it was great!!
I am so thankful for my Mom and Dad….they are such an amazing support system to me and the family. I love watching the boys play with them and love that my parents are such a big part of their life. I am thankful for my family and friends…near and far. I have met so many different types of people in over 30 years, each one making an impression on me. I am thankful, obviously, for my husband and children. The love and support that emanates from this family are the best. I am thankful for my sister – we may live far apart, but I love her so much – one more…I am thankful for my job and my lifestyle. 🙂
