It’s been almost one month since my Profound Radio Frequency Microneedling procedure at Bawa Medical, and questions have been coming in left and right.
I figured there’s no time like the present to explain the procedure and my experience thus far.
WHAT IS RADIO FREQUENCY MICRONEEDLING?
Great question! Radio frequency microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that known most for its anti-aging benefits. (It can also be used to reduce the appearance of cellulite, but that is a whole different article.). Microneedling reduces the appearance of wrinkles, scarring and sagging skin by stimulating an increase in collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid.
The addition of radio frequency aides in the collagen production.
Profound radio frequency microneedling is known as a non-surgical facelift in that it isn’t as invasive, yet it provides long-lasting wrinkle reduction! It’s especially great for jowls and droopy laugh lines due to its ability to build volume, lift and tighten. That’s what sold me.
PRE-PROCEDURE CONSULTATION
My consultation before the treatment took place a few days beforehand. Dr. Bawa took photos from just about every angle, we reviewed what was going to take place the day of the treatment and what to expect after. I picked up some prescriptions and off I was!
In hindsight, I want to remark that Dr. Bawa explained everything that I was to expect during and after the treatment. I was not blind-sighted or concerned about any step along the way. This is something that you may not experience typically – and something I appreciated!
TREATMENT DAY!
I worked a half day and then headed over to Dr. Bawa’s office. I took an Uber and planned that my hubby would pick me up. Once I arrived, we took some more photos and the medical assistant applied a topical numbing cream.
Once the numbing cream started to kick in, the next step was lidocaine injections. In all honesty, they didn’t tickle but Dr. Bawa prepped me ahead of time about what to expect.
The specialized needles Dr. Bawa uses for the lidocaine injections are imported from Europe. Why you may ask? The Mesoram needles allow for a quicker pre-procedure numbing and more overall comfort for the patient. (I totally appreciated that!)
The entire treatment for both my face and neck, once numbed, took about 90 minutes.
We listened to music during the treatment – I was caught singing to Maroon 5.
After Dr. Bawa completed treatment on my face, she began on my neck. The neck (and hands) is a common area of the body that people tend to overlook when it comes to aging. I noticed, and it may be genetic but either way, that I was beginning to form jowls (for lack of better descriptive terms).
By extending the Profound RF treatment beyond the face to the neck, the youthful look will extend there as well!
Once the procedure was over, I headed home for our usual roasted chicken dinner. I was puffy but completely normal as I had been injected with lidocaine.
DAY ONE
I woke up to puffiness and slight bruising, all par for the course. I started to take homeopathic highly-diluted arnica pills, used for bruising and swelling after surgeries. My skin felt a smidge tight but there was no pain. I used a very mild, moisturizing face wash and topped it off with Arnicare gel.
DAY TWO
Day two brought on more bruising, still no pain at all! I took a trip over to Ulta and picked up some under eye concealer, foundation and setting powder to cover the bruising when I went into the office.
DAY THREE – DAY SEVEN
Each day brought less and less puffiness. The bruises went from blue and purple to yellow and then disappeared.
THREE WEEKS
Results are not immediate which makes sense because the treatment itself is first jumpstarts the production of collagen and elastin. I’ve personally been noticing a tightness under my eye area and cheeks. Not a dry tightness, more of a “fit” tightness.
My dad even remarked that I looked more awake. For my dad to make a comment is HUGE!
Stay tuned for updates as I go in for follow-up visits with Dr. Bawa.

It’s good to learn that micro-needling can reduce wrinkles and sagging skin. My wife is getting older and she was wondering how she could tighten her skin so she looks younger. I’ll be sure to tell her to talk to a dermatologist about micro-needling procedures.
