Last night my husband and little guy were my dates to the preview of Alice Through the Looking Glass. We grabbed a bite to eat and then headed to the theater. With 3D glasses in hand, we found our seats and were ready to be transported to Underworld.
A LITTLE PREVIEW OF ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS
In Disney’s “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” an all-new spectacular adventure featuring the unforgettable characters from Lewis Carroll’s beloved stories, Alice returns to the whimsical world of Underland to save her friend the Mad Hatter. Directed by James Bobin, who brings a unique vision to the spectacular world Tim Burton created on screen in “Alice in Wonderland,” the film is written by Linda Woolverton based on characters created by Lewis Carroll and produced by Joe Roth, Suzanne Todd and Jennifer Todd and Tim Burton with John G. Scotti serving as executive producer. “Alice Through the Looking Glass” reunites the all-star cast from the worldwide blockbuster phenomenon, including: Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Mia Wasikowska, Matt Lucas and Helena Bonham Carter along with the voices of Alan Rickman, Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen and Timothy Spall. We are also introduced to several new characters: Zanik Hightopp (Rhys Ifans), the Mad Hatter’s father and Time himself (Sacha Baron Cohen), a peculiar creature who is part human, part clock.
Alice Kingsleigh (Wasikowska) has spent the past three years sailing the high seas. Upon her return to London, she comes across a magical looking glass and returns to the fantastical realm of Underland. Reuniting with her friends the White Rabbit, Absolem, the White Queen and the Cheshire Cat, Alice must save the Hatter and Underland itself, before time runs out. Presented in Digital 3D™, Real D 3D and IMAX® 3D, Disney’s “Alice Through the Looking Glass” opens in U.S. theaters on May 27, 2016.
OUR REVIEW!
G hadn’t seen Alice in Wonderland so he didn’t know what to expect, whereas my husband and I were wondering if it would be as good or better (or worse). It’s hard to tell a lot of times when you go to these sequels, but with a cast including Sasha Baron Cohen, Anne Hathaway (a personal favorite) and Johnny Depp it had to be good.
It was.
It was actually better than good. It was AWESOME.
I don’t even know where to start and I don’t want to give anything away (of course, if you read the book, you’d know the story but you know what I mean!). My favorite character was the Mad Hatter, played by Johnny Depp. The acting was phenomenal, as well as the makeup, costume and scenery. Everything was so colorful and perfectly created – a true surreal world.
Even though it is rated PG, there were many parts that evoked laughter from all ages in the theater. Sasha Baron Cohen’s character is Time and we loved the time-related innuendos that were tossed around throughout the film.
I loved how that Alice quoted her father’s wisdom throughout the movie. In the beginning when one of Alice’s shipmates said “It’s impossible”, Alice retorted with, “You know what I think of that word. If you believe it’s possible, then it is.”
There is a lot to take away from Alice Through the Looking Glass, which makes it a great conversation starter with your children once you leave the theater. Two topics we discussed were:
- You cannot change the past.
- Always tell the truth.
Definitely 6 thumbs up from this crew (and if N was with us, it would’ve been 8!).
