I am terrible at caring for plants. I love them…all kinds. They don’t love me too much.
I have read many positive attributes to having plants in your home.
What are the benefits of having plants in your home?
Plants can:
- Clean and deodorize the air
- Reduce noise – plants interrupt the path of sound waves, preventing them from reflecting from hard surfaces. Hence, lowering indoor sound levels!
- Absorb heat in the summer! (I cannot say that your electric bill will drastically plummet…)
- Boost oxygen – plants take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen. This is a great partnership for us – we need the oxygen and they need the carbon dioxide…you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours…kind of!! Plants can also lower the levels of carbon dioxide produced by stoves and candles.
I don’t remember exactly where I came across this great fact – but plants that are succulents are very hearty and require minimal care. That sounds like something I can work with!! I did some research. I checked our local Home Depot and searched online – either not finding them or confusing myself as to what I was going to get.
Lo and behold, I am searching one of my favorite websites for home decor and I come across succulents…and cacti! Who would’ve ever thought that West Elm sold plants????
My succulents and cacti came in the mail, securely packed. My aunt helped me give them their first “bath” and placed them outside. Is it possible that I can keep these plants alive and gorgeous?!? (I hope so!) Either way, I remembered to water them all last week (although the rain these past few days has helped me with my chores some.)
Yesterday I was so excited when I looked outside and there was a flower growing on one of my cacti! It was like my baby had a baby (seriously…I was that excited!)
Don’t you love it? Oh, and I bought my new buddies some cool planters….
