Tis the season for ghoulish giveaways and treats! To help limit “the sweets for your sweets”, here are some healthy Halloween treats.
These healthier alternatives are perfect to give out to the little monsters who arrive at your next Halloween party, or at your door; including soft chews that will help protect your tooth enamel from the harmful sugar acids when your kids get their hands on the real deal.
Check out my news segment for a quick glimpse at my recommendations and scroll below for the full details, links to purchase and more!
If it smells like candy…
Some may not realize this, but it is generally a good idea to have candy alternatives on hand for trick or treaters. Some ghosts and goblins may have allergies to the traditional candy treats, and Everything Smells definitely has you covered!
Why not have a bowl of candy SCENTED items to offer those kids? My boys go wild for scented goodies, so you could only imagine what they said when I showed them these super cute scratch and sniff sticker sheets, the cutest sugar cookie scented eraser shaped like a pumpkin. It looks so real, I had to hold the little one back from taking a bite!
Smencils have been a must-have for my boys since elementary school. Their school store stocked them non-stop and they were always a choice as an add-on for birthday gifts. These Halloween themed pencils have scents like Candy Corn, Caramel Pumpin, or Goblin Grape.
Backpack and bag keyrings are all the rage, and Everything Smells has you covered! I love the candy corn shaped bag charm, as well as the surprise ones…you won’t know what’s inside until you open them!
You can purchase all of these on the Everything Smells website. Items ship in one business day, so if you order now you’ll have your items in time for Halloween.
Who doesn’t love Play-doh?
I grew up creating everything from animals to dinner for friends with my Play-doh. (I have to admit I was a bit OCD about the colors mixing, so I checked each canister before putting them away after playtime.)
Play-doh is most definitely not candy – it is a great sensory tool for the little ones. I would be super happy if my boys came home with a can or two of Play-doh on Halloween night.
Aside from fostering creativity, Play-doh can double as a great fidget toy. Pop a can in your kids’ party bags or send them into the school Fall party with a box to hand out to schoolmates.
You can find the box of 20 cans on Hasbro’s website or at most major toy retailers nationwide.
Who Doesn’t Love Pretzels?
If you want to stay along the lines of edible treats, why no hand out snack pack sized bags of Snyder’s of Hanover pretzels? You can pick up a packet of 24 bags at your local CVS, Target, and other major retailers nationwide.
Pretzels are a great alternative to sugary snacks. Made of only simple ingredients, they are also non-GMO and fat-free.
Note: I may or may not get two boxes of the snack bags because they are the perfect size to throw in your purse or diaper bag as a last minute on the go snack.
Super Monsters!
My family members are Netflix fans. The variety of shows and movies available for anyone’s particular taste is amazing.
The SUPER MONSTERS, a new series, offers episodes with storylines based on supernatural abilities and magical transformations where kids can discover the value of self-control, kindness, respect, and friendship.
It’s a great first step into the fun, funny, and not-so-spooky realm of monsters.
Seasons 1 and 2 of Super Monsters are available on Netflix now. Be sure to check out their holiday special, “Super Monsters Save Halloween”.
If you’re hosting a Halloween soiree for the small set, check out the Super Monsters collection of figures, converting vehicles, plush and more as options for party favors!
You can purchase them online at HasbroToyShop.com or any major toy retailer nationwide. Pricing starts at $7.99.
Candy that isn’t Candy
Yes, you read it right. Basic Bites are amazing. They taste like candy but they aren’t. AND they are kid-approved. What’s the catch? There really is none.
Basic Bites are individually-wrapped soft chews that actually help protect the enamel on your teeth from sugary acids (translation – from the candy that they are more than likely going to eat).
I had my little one try them out, as he has the biggest sweet tooth. I didn’t tell him what the little chew was – I just asked him to try it. He described it as tasting similar to a mix of a chocolate tootsie roll and licorice. AND he liked it!
When I told him it is actually GOOD for him, I got the side-eyed look of confusion. These sugar-free little squares of awesomeness have been clinically shown to help protect teeth from the harmful effects of damaging sugar acids and effects of dry mouth too!
You can purchase them online at BasicBites.com or on Amazon.com. Get 10% off your order when you buy two or more 120 count packages!
Check them out on Instagram and Facebook!

I love the idea of giving out things that are not sweets but something children will enjoy just as much 🙂 all these ideas are great. If only I could do some of these but I live in the uk and Halloween is not as big over here. Haven’t had any trick or treaters for the past 3 years or more even.

I like the idea of offering children an alternative to candy. Sure, candy is ok in limited amounts, but when going from house to house and coming back with a bag full of them, it’s not great.
