Today is National Grandparents Day! I always wondered how this day came about (not that all of the grandparents don’t deserve a super special day just for them), and want to quell my husband’s typical comment, “It’s a Hallmark holiday”.
Marian McQuade, the founder of National Grandparents Day, wanted to do something nice for the elderly people in nursing homes that were lonely and without family. Marian also wanted this day to highlight for all of the grandchildren out there, the need to tap into the wisdom and heritage that their grandparents could provide. Before N was born, I gave my mom, dad and husband a book to complete. I thought, that once completed, it would be a nice keepsake for him and any future siblings. The book was a fill-in-the-blanks style, where the writer tells the reader their favorite things, memories from their childhood and about their ancestors.
UMMMM…MOM, DAD AND HUSBAND….It has been over 7 years…let’s dust those books off and fill them out. (Just as an aside.)
Below is the Grandparents Day Proclamation!
With that said, Happy Grandparents Day!
