This past weekend an old friend came to visit! I met her at my previous job – I loved her energy and we clicked right away! Fast forward ten years (wow…10 years), we have changed jobs a few times along with geographic locations; we’ve collectively brought five children into the world and made it a point that regardless where we were in our lives or the US, we’d keep in touch.
Some thing occurred in her life that made me spring to action – she needed some hard-core girl time and I knew just the thing to do! Friday evening I picked her up at the airport and we sped home to enjoy some delicious sushi and start the catch-up in person phase.
Saturday morning we went to visit her super spunky 83-year-old grandmother, who is in a leg cast up to her knee! I can see where my friend got her energy and kindness – this lady was a trip. I loved listening to them filling in each other on family members’ happenings. After the family visit we were off to the hotel for some R&R.
After check in, we decided to wander around the grounds of the resort and stumbled upon their GORGEOUS spa. It was meant to be…here I am trying to decide what treatment to choose!
Decisions, decisions!
We checked out the inhalation room – here, you lay down and have cucumbers placed on your eyes while you literally inhale eucalyptus infused air. I was able to sit still for all of 20 minutes before I had to get up and check out the rest of the spa (if you know me, I can’t sit still for long periods of time – this was a miracle that I could lay there for 20 minutes). From ritual baths to jacuzzis, saunas, steam rooms, and a private pool – we were in heaven!!
A snack by the beach and we were off to drink our smuggled bottle of wine by the waves!
We talked about old times; about our kids; about a little bit of everything! Once we depleted our source of wine, we headed back to the room to get ready for dinner. On the way back to the hotel, the bus driver told us of this tree on site, that was “from the dinosaur age”. Of course we were in the mood for exploring, so off we went! Here is a picture of this HUGE tree…I tried every angle to get the entire tree in the picture…it was impossible!
Isn’t it amazing???
What a great weekend! Tune in to Part 2 tomorrow!

It’s so nice to get together with good friends and catch up. One of my best friends came to visit last summer and we had so much fun. We’ve known each other since 7th grade and her friendship means the world to me.
