I am a big fan of cucumbers. I never really knew of any beverages that contained cucumber until I visited a spa and they offered complimentary cucumber-infused water. It was very refreshing! All I needed to do to replicate this newfound refresher was fill a pitcher with water, add a peeled and sliced cucumber and viola!
Now I am always looking for drinks that include cucumber and came across a few during date nights this past month. The first drink I tried was at Hullabaloo, a local gastropub known for its selection of craft beer and music-themed drinks (and of course the delicious and different meal offerings). I opted for the Holliday and am glad I did. Made of Crop cucumber vodka, a splash of club “soda muddled” mint, lemons, cucumber and agave. Super refreshing and definitely tasty. It went very well with my roast chicken dish.
My second favorite cucumber drink was discovered at Sweetwater. I HAD to get this drink, considering the name – Breakfast at Tiffany’s. A combination of Old Tom gin, Aquavit, cucumber, grenadine, celery bitters, and sparkling water – YUM. Refreshing and before I knew it – gone.
Cucumber seems to pair nicely with mint and there are more than a handful of drink recipes that incorporate the two – usually with vodka, lime and tonic water as well.
Looking for a non-alcoholic take on cucumber drinks? Cucumber-ginger fizzes are always a good route – lime, simple syrup, English cucumber, and carbonated water.
