I know I am not the only one that was a huge fan (and still am) of Sex in the City. I have to admit that I have never watched the first season (it’s on my to-do list for sure), but jumped on the bandwagon during the second series and have loved it ever since.
When I found out that CW was premiering a show based on Carrie’s life before Sex in the City, I was skeptical and excited all at once. You know why I was excited…anything related to Sex in the City would make me happy. I was skeptical because I truly felt that it would be way to hard to recreate the “feeling” and aura that was the original series? Also, not to be rude, but on the CW? Isn’t that channel for teeny boppers?
Putting all of that aside, I watched the premiere episode with my husband (surprisingly enough he knew what I was watching and hung around for the entire show). Remembering the book, The Carrie Diaries and Summer in the City also by Candace Bushnell, I tried to put some of the pieces together. Carrie is a small town girl, who is living with her widowed father and younger and rebellious sister, Dorit. Carrie has the well-known curly hair and similar voice of the older Carrie Bradshaw. You can see her love of fashion from the very beginning. She wears eclectic outfits just as her “older self” did. Her love of writing is more apparent towards the end of the first episode, which is yet another great tie-in to SITC. You really feel for the Brandshaw girls when they talk about their mother – I have to admit I got a little teary-eyed at one point.
I think I need to see another episode or two to truly know if this show is going to be part of my rotation of shows, but I see potential!
Note: I am in no way affiliated with The Carrie Diaries or CW.
