I just completed The Age of Miracles by Karen Thompson Walker this past week. I was torn if I should write a review on it or not because, although I enjoyed the way that Walker writes, I was disturbed by the story. Hello? That is what was intended!!! This was a book that I didn’t want to put down – clue #1 that it was great writing. There were instances in the book that evoked sadness, confusion, excitement, happiness…At first I wouldn’t recommend The Age of Miracles, but after realizing that the reason WHY I wouldn’t was because it moved me…makes it all the more reason to recommend it!!
This novel has received tons of praise, from:
“THE NEXT BIG FEMALE NOVELIST.” –Rolling Stone
“This haunting and soul-stirring novel about the apocalypse is transformative and unforgettable.”—Marie Claire
“Quietly explosive … Walker describes global shifts with a sense of utter realism, but she treats Julia’s personal adolescent upheaval with equal care, delicacy, and poignancy.”—O, The Oprah Magazine
“Haunting.”–Real Simple
“If you begin this book, you’ll be loath to set it down until you’ve reached its end… The Age of Miracles reminds us that we never know when everything will change, when a single event will split our understanding of personal history and all history into a Before and an After.” –The San Francisco Chronicle
I truly cannot wait for Walker to come out with her next book!
Note: I was not compensated for this review.
