Getting a job right now might seem impossible – the pandemic has made many careers unsustainable. However, not every company has stopped hiring. In fact, there are some industries that are crying out for staff. Here are just some of the jobs that are currently in demand right now.
Delivery driving
With everyone now shopping online, delivery drivers have never been more in demand. A driver’s license could be the only qualification you need (if you’re applying for a truck driving job, you’ll need an HGV license) and some companies may even be able to supply a vehicle. There are lots of delivery companies around looking for full-time employees. Alternatively, you could bid on shipments and work freelance. It could be the perfect job if you enjoy driving.
Retail work
Many essential retail stores are also calling out for staff. You don’t need qualifications to work in retail and you may have the freedom to choose your own hours. Retail work could include working out the counter, stocking shelves or cleaning. There could also be supervisory and office roles to consider.
Warehouse work
Warehouse operatives are also in demand right now. Amazon is the biggest hirer – but there are many other eCommerce and logistics companies that are in need of staff too. You usually won’t need qualifications to work in a warehouse. Having a forklift license or logistics training could help in certain roles.
Nursing
If you have a medical background, consider whether you may be able to work as a nurse. Even if you don’t have a full nursing qualification, you may be able to get a job as a nursing assistant or porter – hospitals are currently in great need of staff to help with basic tasks such as transporting items around the building and supervising patients. You’ll be on the frontline against Covid, so bear this in mind.
Senior care
There’s long been a shortage of elderly carers. Right now, this shortage is even greater. If you’ve been thinking of getting involved in senior care, now could be a perfect time. You could look after the elderly in a care home or you could work for an at-home care agency. There may even be the option of private care. You generally don’t need any qualifications to work in senior care and you may be able to choose your hours flexibly.
Pharmacy work
Pharmacy technicians are also in demand right now. This could include working in a pharmacy store, a hospital pharmacy, or even in medical research. A bachelor of pharmacy is generally required to work in this field – however, unqualified applicants may still be able to find roles in pharmacy that don’t directly involve working with medicine such as cleaning or handling stock.
Online customer service
A lot of companies are now handling more online customers. This has led to a demand in online customer service roles. This could include answering phone calls, answering emails or answering a live chat. Experience in an office setting may help when applying for such a role, but likely won’t be essential. You can search for vacancies online.
